Government Oversight

These are (some) of the websites that provide the information that the government uses to monitor the spending of billions of dollars of "Recovery Money" (i.e. taxes and trade deficit):

Recovery.gov: Track the Money -- This website is the public’s primary source for information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. In general this website explains the Recovery Act. It shows how, when, and where the money is spent. The website also provides data to allow individuals to evaluate progress and provide feedback and provides links to related information such as the Recovery Act, itself, the Code of Federal Regulations, agency web pages, and state web pages.

• Federal Department and Agency Websites -- All federal departments and agencies receiving Recovery Act stimulus funding have established their own Recovery Act web pages on their existing websites. (Information still has to be submitted to recovery.gov, though.)

• State Websites -- Many states also have established web pages to provide information about their receipt and use of Recovery Act funds.

Office of Management and Budget: Memoranda -- This website provides detailed information to federal agencies about how they should conduct programs and activities relating to the Recovery Act. The Office of Management and Budget will periodically post updated information on this website.

Office of Management and Budget: Circulars -- Understanding the Single Audit (Circular A-133 Audits) process is a basic step to understanding how auditors are used to monitor grants and other federally funded expenditures.

Governmental Audit Quality Center -- This is the AICPA’s Governmental Audit Quality Center website that provides resources specific to OMB Circular A-133 audits (Single Audits).
