About the site title:

So maybe I should explain the title of the blog. Emile Zola wrote a book called the The Debacle. The book describes the French Army's fall to the Prussians in the Franco-Prussian war. A bit of a dry read, but the French Army would march in one direction one day and then march in different direction the next day and then march back to where they started and then in a new direction, etc. The French Army was reacting to the Prussian army's movements. Eventually the French were cornered and surrounded on several sides by the Prussians.

It seems to me that this is what humanity is doing today. We are reacting. We should be assessing the situation, making clearly defined plans, following through with our plans, and adapting our plans as circumstances require. But instead we march in circles while our problems pile on top of us. Why? Because we are too busy reacting to act.
